Can I create hyperlinks in a PDF to locations on my local Dropbox folder on Mac?
Hi I am trying to make hyperlinks in a pdf which will bring me to locations on my dropbox folder. Currently I am able to get to my web folder but I have connected dropbox to my Mac and would like to go to a location in my finder. Is that possible and would it also work for other people at my company? Since the folder directory has your username included into it?

Hi Leendert-S, thanks for messaging the Community!
It might be possible to create a URL to locate a file in your local directory on your computer, however, you'd need to research on how to create this URL to be read on Mac devices.
Regarding the other users in the company, as the file might be in a different folder, and depending on how you create the link, it might not work for them. If they're not using Mac devices, this would most likely not work either.
If you have any further queries, feel free to message back.

Almost certainly not - because as you said the files are on your machine on your Mac and the directory includes your own name etc.
A work around, however, would be to hyperlink to files on Dropbox using shared links instead - that way you could update the files but they always use the same link for others.

Hi, Thanks for answering. Indeed after some try-outs I see it's not optimal.
I tried hyperlinks in pdf. This opens web excel and then I can put links in this excel to open a folder in dropbox in the web application. This altogether is not optimal.
Is there any other way to stay in the file locations in my dropbox folder on the machine, with other software? What I need as a working order is something like this:
1: Something which can view technical drawings. In these drawings I want to add hyperlinks which will direct me to >
2: An excel like program which gives more information and is easily adaptable and in here I want >
3: Hyperlinks to somewhere in the dropbox folder on my machine to find certain files again.I am not restricted to pdf or excel and maybe people know some out of the box possibilities to get so a same solution. In summary it's a way to direct on a clear way to certain data. And it needs to work aswell for other users in the company.
Thanks!

What you're asking for is a little complex, and requires understanding how your device and apps can access files and folders on the machine.
Try doing a search for 'how to open a file in Finder via a url', and you'll see several articles explaining how to do this.
Depending on the apps you're using, they might have other ways to open those files, so it might be worth contacting the developers for this information.
I'll leave this thread open for other users to contribute their suggestions.
In the meantime, if there's anything else we can assist with, feel free to reply back here!
