Saving PNG files with Matlab

I use Matlab to save PNG files using saveas() on two laptops. On laptop 1, files are saved into a Dropbox folder without error.  On Laptop 2, I get this error in Matlab:

Error using print
PNG library failed: Could not open file..

This is not a permission issue: I can save the files fine to other locations.

Matlab community item implies this is due to Dropbox:  see https://www.mathworks.com/matlabcentral/answers/415105-i-am-using-saveas-function-of-matlab-to-save-figures-but-sometimes-it-gives-me-error-using-print-l

When I snooze notifications, Matlab can save file. However, I need to know this is reliable since I have Matlab running and saving files for hours.

My question: Didn't Dropbox used to have a setting to pause syncing?  Is there anything else I should do in addition to snoozing notifications?  Does snoozing notifications mean the Dropbox syncing is turned off?

thanks,

jb.

Hi jb07060, welcome to our Community!

Based on everything you described, and since this is an error coming directly from Matlab, I don't believe it has any immediate connection to do with Dropbox.

Keep in mind that if this was indeed a Dropbox issue, you'd probably have the same problem with laptop 1.

It could be a conflict between the two programs and how they access your files, but since this isn't something coming from us, I can't safely and surely say that this is the culprit.

You also mentioned snoozing notifications. Can you let me know more about this?

Now as to pausing the syncing process of the Dropbox app, you can see more about this in this Help Center article. Can you try it, and let me know more?

If this helps, you can pause our app, save the content you need from Matlab to Dropbox, and then resume syncing.

    I hope this helps!

I'm not saying it's the fault of Dropbox.  However, when I change the settings in Dropbox, the problem seemed to fix itself. That leads me to believe the problem is at least linked to Dropbox.

By notifications, I mean the menu item available in the Dropbox desktop app.  See picture below.   In the interest of saving time, I'll try pausing Dropbox if the problem returns.

      thanks,

      jb.

Hi jb07060, snoozing notifications is unrelated to the pausing of the sync feature, and the article posted by my colleague would have the steps to follow.

Once you've paused the syncing, please let me know if you get the same error again when saving a file.
