I've been a member since Dropbox's launch and I'm done; I should have joined the lawsuit.
I joined when you launched. When you offered, I think it was like 100 GB or something, this amazing public folder you could actually put a webpage on (though I never did), and you were offered it for free for life! Then you renegged on that, and I lived in California where you were getting sued if you werent elsewhere. I didn't mind the changes because you did offer a lot and i wasn't using it all. I didnt join the lawsuit despite having done more than my fair share of word of mouth advertising. It WAS really impressive. Then it wasnt. Over the years you have striped it down and stripped it down. Now I'm over your measly 2GB and worry about my backups so I'm going to move EVERY THING out somewhere else.
I'm dissapointed. In you and myself. I believed you. Then I understood you. Then I just kept getting stripped out of an arangement you definately benefitted from more than I have because the publicity of that offer got you the success you have today. People like me contributed to your success by telling everyone about it. I got some free storage space. You got to leverage a campaign establishing the initial market base necessary to demonstrate interest and get investers and loans to grow your company. Then you went back on your deal, you took it and ran. I should have joined the lawsuit.

Dropbox has never, ever offered that much. A few hundred initial subscribers were offered 5gb, however, Dropbox has always only ever given 2gb. Even with all its referral space you could only ever max out at 18gb (16gb in referrals based upon 32 referrals at 500mb each). If you were referred yourself you could get an extra 500mb and some bonus space like using Carousel, Getting started etc. The maximum free space was about 20gb.
Initial paid plans (at $99) were for 50gb.
My guess here is you are actually mistaking Dropbox for Box.com - which offered a lot more space, although I believe now is only 10gb.

They have never removed or reduced quotas of people. Here for example is some space I got in 2010 which I still have:
