Solved

I have received marketing emails at another email address not linked or related to Dropbox.

I have had a Basic Plan account for may years. This month (June 2025) I started receiving marketing emails on my alternate email address. I selected to unsubscribe from these emails. But when I clicked the unsubscribe link, it took me to a webpage associated with the email address assigned to my primary DropBox account. Upon reviewing all the setting I could see, I could not see why DropBox has my alternate email address.

The first one was to notify me of a login to my account from a new browser, but I can't find that configured in my Dropbox settings. Please explain how Dropbox obtained this address and why Dropbox used this alternate email address for marketing emails.

  • I have found an entry in my Google account that indicates I did the 'Continue with Google' link to the Dropbox site in Feb. That's where the email address got to Dropbox. So I've solved my issue.

One more question. If I use the Continue with Google, is that the same account as when I login with a email address and password?

    Thanks for replying.

    Hi DoctorBashir

Just want to test something here. Could you copy/paste the unsubscribe link and paste it in to an incognito browser window for me and see if it still takes you to a diff email address?

It takes me to a page where I see a sign-in link. So it seems the link in the email was opening a webpage to the account that I was already signed in to in another tab in the browser. In the private window there was no login already established

I was trying things on the Dropbox website I think I may have confused the issue. I clicked the 'Login with Google.' and entered my Gmail address (the same alternate address) and it established a NEW Dropbox account. So now there IS an account with that Gmail address . But I don't know where the earlier emails were originating from.
