Why has my Documents folder renamed itself?
Hi, I hope someone here can help! I run dropbox on multiple computers and use the Dropbox-> Documents folder as my native Documents folder (on mac).
Yesterday I was working on my home computer and when i came to work i saw that my 'Documents' folder has renamed itself from Documents so a long string of letters and numbers. Does anyone know how or why this happened? I feel like it might be some kind of version control thing but I don't understand why it has happened if that is the case. In case it helps, I think i was only able to create an alias for the documents folder on my work mac (which i then moved to the finder bar)...
All suggestions welcome! Thanks
N

Hi there nraihani - sorry to hear about this.
Could you send us a screenshot of how this looks on your end so that we can have a visual too?
Also, did you enable the Dropbox Backup feature at some point perhaps?
What is your computer's exact OS version by the way?
Any additional information is more than welcome!

Hi Walter, thanks for replying. I actually took the link off my sidebar as it was stressing me out (i use dropbox for everything). i'm running Sonoma 14.3. I don't think i enabled dropbox backup but if it happens automatically then maybe it was enabled.
The online chat person told me to update the app and now there are two Mac icons inside my dropbox - one called 'Mac' and the other called 'Mac(2)' - what are these? is Mac (2) my other mac or some other version control issue?
thanks for any help!

Could you also send me a screenshot of how this looks on your end so that I can have a visual too?
Also, what is the desktop app's exact status and version as shown in your menu bar at the moment?

Thanks for the ticket ID nraihani
I was able to locate it in our system and I can I see that the agent who's handling your request has sent you an email and waiting for your response.
At this point, I'd suggest getting back to them directly via your ticket as they'd be better equipped to assist further with this.
Let us know if you have anything else to add or ask in the meantime.
