How can I opt out of 2 factor authentication?

Please advise how to opt of multi-layer security, such as 2 Factor Authentication? I am a private user and have changed telelphone numbers, no longer have the old one which you are likely sending codes to, uselessly. Took me an hour of reading your multiple instructive sections, and asking the chatbot to figure out another way in.

I do not want 2 factor authentication. Thank you.

The only way is to disable it yourself via this link. However, you will need access to the current devices to do that. If you do not you need your recovery codes issued when you set it up (note that you had to have set this up, it isnt done as standard).

If you do not have access to the codes or the linked device it isnt possible to recover the account usually. However, you can try logging a ticket via http://www.dropbox.com/support WHILE NOT LOGGED IN - even to here. So, use an incognito window.

thank you, that worked. If only it had been that simple to start with - but I think the issue was that the cell phone company had issued me a temp number a couple months ago while they worked out a tech issue with a new phone I purchased and getting my original number back (a business line), and during that 10 days or so that I had the temp number, I must have entered it with Dropbox for some reason -  I don't even recall,  the cell company was so messed up on that -  I also switched devices and don't have the old device - so double whammy. I have my codes now... hopefully won't need them.   Who woulda thought.....😄
