I'm having trouble accessing my account, since I don't receive the 2FA code.
I have a separate Dropbox account linked to my work email, which colleagues occasionally use to share folders and files. While I previously accessed these files through that account, I'm currently unable to regain access. All my attempts, including password reset links (which I receive in my work email), have failed because the subsequent MFA codes are not delivered. I would be okay with deletion of my Dropbox account linked to my work email, just to make things work again, as I only use it to see files shared by others. Is it possible to regain access to this dropbox account?

Hey Varjen, I'd be more than happy to look into this with you!
One clarification here. Are you referring to the 6-digit security code, or our 2FA?
I'm guessing it's the first one, especially if you're checking your email address for these codes.
Provided that's the case, can you add no-reply@dropbox.com to your email contacts, and try again?
Let me know more, and we'll take it from there!

Hi Megan, thanks for answering! I get the email in my inbox with the reset link, however, then I cant get a six digit code, because I lost access to my old work pc and I don't have Dropbox linked to my authenticator app.

Hey Varjen, thanks for the speedy reply!
When enabling our 2-factor authentication, you'll receive 10 backup codes. Each eight-digit code can be used once to access your Dropbox account in case of emergency.
Do you have access to these?
Also, feel free to take a look at the relevant Help Center article.

Hi Megan, unfortunately, I can't find those (just checked my inbox for emails from no-reply at dropbox.com with those codes. They were not sent to my email when I first set up 2fa in 2022 as far as i can see. The problem is that my Microsoft Authenticator app does not contain my dropbox account anymore. Also, the the backup codes are not in my separate PW-manager app.

By the way, I am perfectly fine with deleting my old account so that I can start again with the same email address. Maybe it is possible to send a delete link to my registered email address?

Hey Varjen!
When it comes to deleting the account, I'm afraid we can't do much about this. That said, keep in mind that Dropbox accounts are automatically deleted after a period of inactivity.
Also, without the security codes our options are limited. Still I want to make sure we've tried everything we can from our side.
I've opened a ticket for you, and can escalate your case to our specialized team to see if there's anything they can do. I can't promise a resolution, but I'd really like for us to give it a shot. Thanks!

Hi Megan,
Thanks for answering. Is there any way to speed up this process? How long does it take for an inactive account to be deleted?
Thanks!

Hey Varjen!
It takes approximately one year more or less for an inactive account to be deleted.
There's not much that we can do to change that.
