Please help me to delete my Dropbox account

I uninstalled dropbox years ago, but I continue to get files saved to dropbox when I want them saved elsewhere. This is causing major problems for my file structure. I was told previously the only way to resolve this is to delete my dropbox account - but I can't find how to do it. Please do it.

Hi saffer51, thanks for bringing this to our attention.

Could you clarify how files are getting saved to your Dropbox account when you've uninstalled the app?

Are you referring to the local Dropbox folder on your machine, or did you have Dropbox Backup enabled at some point?

Any other info or screenshots would be helpful!

This all happened some time ago. All I can tell you now is that when I first tried to install Dropbox it completely messed up my file structure, which is why I wanted to delete it, and uninstalled the package.

However, I then found that whenever I tried to save files, they were being saved to Dropbox unless I very deliberately saved them elsewhere. When I asked for help, I was told that files would continue to be saved to my Dropbox folder unless I first deleted my Dropbox account - which I was unable to do (then, as now, I could not find how to do so).

Since then it was not a problem as I've been using a different laptop which has now died, so I'm now forced to reverto this one.

It's a problem again today as I tried to open some compressed files - which were automatically saved to Dropbox and I've been unable to drag and drop them to where I want them.

All I want now is to delete my Dropbox account. Surely that should not be a problem?

Are you getting any particular errors when trying to drag and drop those files saffer51?

Also, the instructions to delete your Dropbox account can found here, if needed.

Some further information: I do not have a Dropbox folder on my laptop (just checked). I imagine I must have installed Dropbox backup.

Everytime I try to save a file, something automatically creates a Dropbox folder - I assume a backup folder, which is why I can't find it on my laptop.

Can you send us a screenshot of how this looks on your end so that we make sure we're on the same page saffer51?

Do you see anything listed in your backups page?
