"You've tried to add 2FA with SMS too many times. Please try again after 24 hours."

Hello, team! When I enter my phone number trying to set up two-step authentication, I get this message the first time and all subsequent times I enter my phone number:

"You've tried to add two-step authentication with SMS too many times. Please try again after 24 hours." 

And after 24 hours the same story repeats.

Is it a bug in the Dropbox system? Or what is the issue here? Would be thankful for any help.

    Are you able to add two-step verification using a different authentication method on your account?

    Hi Jay,

    I am experiencing the same problem. I have tried to troubleshoot this by using different browsers and even an incognito mode. I really would like to set up my phone number. Any advice?

    Hey Ciaa! Sorry for jumping in. 

    Did you receive the error message mentioned above the very first time you tried to add your phone number as part of the two-step verification process? Had you tried to enable 2FA again at some point in the past?

    Can you send me a screenshot of the error message you’re getting, so that we can also have a visual? Just make sure your personal info isn't showing.

    Hi Nancy,

    Thank you for getting back. 

    I got the message the first time I tried to add the phone number. I waited 24 hours, and it happened again. Then I waited 72 hours, and it keeps happening...

    Here is the screen shot:

     

    I've been checking multiple forums and I can see that many people has had the same error.

    Any idea how can we fix this?

    Hey Ciaa, thanks for the update here.

    Does it work if you try to set up two-factor authentication with an offline authenticator app instead?

    I could do that but, ideally, is not what I want, as I am in the process of changing phones. What is the point of having a SMS authenticator if it doesn't work? Is this function not available atm?

    I checked with our Team internally, and it seems this is a known issue that has recently emerged.
