The stock app has been trying to sync on my Ubuntu 23.04 LTS installation for about 5 days. Some files are there but many are missing. I thought perhaps the solution would be to compile the app specifically for my computer. It turns out that the source code, and presumably the precompiled binary are using dependencies that are broken/unavailable for new versions of linux. Python2 is deprecated and not even available for recent versions of Linux, meaning that pygtk is also unavailable. I installed the nautilus-environment for 64 bit linux, but this too is outdated and deprecated on recent versions. although I was able to compile it from source and install. This is unacceptable. I chose Dropbox over other platforms due to Linux compatibility. Now it appears to be no longer compatible.

Again, pygtk is a Python2 utility and it is neither available, or usable on Ubuntu 23.04. It appears I wasted my money on Dropbox and I need to look for another platform for storage and sync.

What kind of sources are you trying to configure? I just took a look in the history and, as far as I can see, the last version that depends on pygtk stays back at year 2018. Try something newer, as sources.
Or better try the deb package from the end of previous (2022) year.

Add: By the way, just to avoid confusion, those sources are not for the actual application! The application is Dropbox proprietary closed source software. The sources you're trying to compile form the Nautilus plugin that lets Dropbox sync status to be visible in Nautilus file browser, nothing more. If this plugin is missing, you can't see per file sync status, but application work cannot be affected in any way! If something is going wrong with the application itself and not how the sync process appears in Nautilus, better try find exactly what's wrong in advance, before continue do something meaningless.
