Help? Can't download files to my desktop. Says "insufficient permission".

Hi there,

I downloaded "clean my mac" and ran through various protocols related to cookies, programs, etc.  Now, my desktop background is different and various files that were there are now gone.

When I go to Dropbox via Chrome, and try to download any file to my desktop, it fails and says "insufficient permission". I tried in Safari and the same thing happened.

I've been playing around with various settings for like an hour now and am stumped.

How can I fix this, please?

This doesn't sound like a Dropbox issue. Have you tried downloading from any other site? Does this only happen when downloading from the Dropbox website? Dropbox doesn't know (or care) about the download location. Your browser and computer control that.

Interesting.  Thanks for the response.  The main issue is that I can no longer download anything, from any site, to my desktop.  But when I go into Dropbox Backup, I can see the old files that used to be on my desktop.  Not sure how to reconcile this.  It says, "The operation couldn’t be completed. Permission denied."
