Selecting the best plan upgrade for a small business
I have been down this road before and while I have been using Dropbox for about 15 or more years, am still confused by the newer offerings for project folder access via teams, etc. We are also very much at a point where we need to understand the best / economical options for our small firm.
Am looking for a Dropbox user interface structure that has 1 administrator that can share project folders (individual or all) with up to 3-4 users, and that can grow if needed. Individual users have their own company email for sign in. It would also be beneficial to turn-on and off (ie not pay constant rate) for occasional consultants needing access to individual project folders to collaborate. It would also still be useful to share individual files or folders to outside users. We currently have an Essentials Plus account with 2TB of storage - we only use about 10% of this.
There is a "Family Plan" which allows up to 6 users for around $200 per year and then there is a Business Plus which allows 3 users (or more) at $180 a pop per year. The $200 dollar option seems like it would be awesome given the price, but I'm sure there is a catch.
Some help in sorting this out or any advice would be much appreciated.

Hi wds_sea - thanks for using Dropbox and posting on our Community.
This would most likely depend on your current needs, but I'd recommend taking a look at the plans listed in this page first and wouldn't suggest the Dropbox Family plan in this case.
Feel free to take a look and let me know if you have any follow up questions.

Everyone needs 4TB minimum now, that's a Mac Studio.
That's a small business use sorted, then there's personal storage as well like 1TB of music if you don't want to use the likes of Spotify & Apple Music (via iTunes). What about personal images and videos!? Add another 1TB. Now, if you are a business like I am as a Graphic Designer and Logo Designer with big needs, I need at least 5TB minimum! Do something Dropbox before I go back to SugarSync! I am only sticking around sticking around here to see if you actually care and do something with this community thread about getting more than 3TB on a one-user personal account... Ruzzle Fruzzle!

Thanks Walter and XDC -
As it stands we do not use a lot of space - but given the way things are, will likely need more...as stated above, we use 10% of the 2TB allowance under our current plan (15+ years of files in the Adobe / Autodesk / Sketchup universe.
Walter - thank you for the link. One question I have is if it is possible to add / remove users as needed. We work with consultants on a project by project basis - meaning they may not be needing access on a full year basis, while core people do. It would be nice to have people added / removed as needed.

It is possible to add members to the team account (by using paid licences) or even share folders with external collaborators if or when needed wds_sea
Let us know if you have any follow up questions.

Thanks Walter - can you answer specifically if I can have yearly paid team members PLUS start/stop occasional monthly members, paying on a month by month basis?
thank you

Hi from me as well, wds_sea!
The Dropbox Plus plan is an individual plan, so you can't purchase licenses and subsequently add users on that account.
With the Dropbox Plus plan, you can have folders that you share with different Dropbox users, who you can add or remove and collaborate that way.
With a Dropbox team plan on the other hand, you can invite users to join the team itself with their account.
I hope this helps!

I’m sorry but I think this is the 3rd time I am asking….With the teams plan, we can have a combination of yearly and monthly team members? And we can start stop team members if using monthly payments?
thank you

Hi wds_sea, on a Dropbox team plan, it isn't possible to have a mixture of monthly and annual licenses. Either the entire team is paid on a monthly basis, or on an annual basis.
If you are on a monthly plan, then you can add a license for a month, and then remove the member to then remove the license for that month.
