Solved

out of space even after deleting files / folders

After deleting folders my storage space has not changed.

This seems like a permanent issue on this forum and Dropbox appears to be intentionally making it hard to remove folders so people are forced to upgrade.

Help? Why are you making it impossible for Dropbox users to delete files / folders and reduce storage use?

    It isnt.

Theres two reasons why - one you are on a Team and that take a few hours to update or two you haven't actually deleted everything back you have Backups set: www.dropbox.com/backups

Have you checked your Backups page? Also, take a screenshot of your usage as shown on your Plan page and post it here. It should look like this:

That's simply not true. Dropbox does nothing to hinder your ability to delete files or reclaim space. If your usage shows space being used, then somewhere in your account there is data taking up that space.

Let's start with a screenshot of your Plan page and we'll take it from there.

I was using 5.09 TB. After that, I *just* deleted a folder with size 2.2 TB. My storage is still showing 5.09 TB.

Screenshot 1: Note that I currently only have a single folder that's now 2.89 TB in size but my account still says I'm sing 5.09 TB.

Screenshot 2:  Plan page (also wrongly claiming I'm using 5.09 TB).

    Screenshot 3: Here's my backups page. I don't think I've enabled backups.

Hi kbdm, is this a private folder that you deleted from the Dropbox team, or is this a folder which is shared with other team members?

It's a folder that's not mine was shared with many other individuals, all outside of my team

Since your quota page shows that the majority of your quota is being taken up by shared folders, it's likely that it's still a folder that is shared to your team.

Did you remove your access to the shared folder entirely using these steps?

It's the next day and the storage space has been updated to reflect the deletion of the 2.2GB folder. So Mark was right and this issue is resolved. Thank you.

Still, it seems a bit crazy that it should take several hours. Why does this happen here - is it because of the large folders / number of files?
