Renaming a team folder
I faced a very simple functionality issue from a folder management point of view that I could not believe that I can face in this day and age. We finally managed to convenience various user groups to start utilizing the Team folder and get away from the shared folder structure where everyone has access to everything with no granularity in terms of permissions. So we got the structure setup by the country code at the top folder level and from there at the 2nd level it's broken down by various departments.
Within the first month of usage, one of the department folders needed to be renamed and I did it from the Admin -> Content menu and thought that I was done. Turned out that the team folder was only renamed for the admin account and not for anyone else. This was very unexpected behaviour for the Team folder as I thought that only shared folders behave that way.
I got in touch with support and they were not able to help me. The suggestions were the following:
- remove the folder from the Team folder and into your Dropbox account. Then unshare the folder and then share it again.
- Create a new folder with the desired name and then move all of the content in the current shared folder to the new one with the desired name.
None of these methods are acceptable when you have a second level Team folder that needs to be renamed as we have a large folder structure underneath.
I've tried to remove all the folder permissions and left with 0 users that were able to access the Team folder (thinking that doing this will sync up the name with everyone on the team) - then shared it again with everyone which didn't produce any positive results.
I mean c'mon Dropbox - we should be able to rename Team subfolders without juggling the files around. Thank you
