Reconnecting existing folder from another drive

Reconnecting existing folder from another drive

I recently lost my hard drive and had to reinstall windows. My dropbox folder was on an auxiliary drive so I still had it. I just needed to reconnect it. I downloaded and followed the advanced settings instructions and identified the aux drive as where the folder is. It is now installing a separate dropbox folder within the same folder a an already existing dropbox folder. I do not want two folder. I just want the original folder to resume syncing. What do I do to correct this?

Hi @smcllr, thanks for bringing this to our attention.

When you perform the advanced settings, make sure to choose the parent folder of the Dropbox folder.

Namely, If it's D:\Files\Dropbox, choose D:\Files

Keep me updated with any progress!

This is what I did. That is what I saw on a different thread because I did not want dropbox to create another folder and syn all the same info. The original is "E:\Dropbox". The weird part is, once I installed the software again, the folder changed it's appearance from standard window folder to the blue box with the word (Personal) in parentheses beside it like before. But when I selected "E:\" the folder location, it created a folder by the same name and began syncing every file that is in the original in the same location as the original.

I need to know how to select the original folder as the location to sync? Is that only possible at the advanced setting on install?

Have you linked a Business account to your Personal account using these steps?

If so, the (Personal) part would have to be on the Dropbox folder, so it wouldn't be possible to link to the old folder any longer.
