Is it possible Dropbox deleted my photos due to inactivity/being over-quota?
Hello,
Has dropbox at anytime removed/deleted photos due to low storage or not accessing dropbox w/in a certain time frame?
I have dropbox accounts under two separate email addresses. One has photos and the other does not. I created them so that I could put photos on them so Im a bit confused why Id have an account and no photos and I seem to think the 2nd account had photos.
Is there anywhere I can check as to the history? What could have happened to my photos? I did look through some articles and didnt really understand them...other than asking if the photos stored on DropBox are somehow connected to our PC's? There was something mentioned about syncing them. I only recall adding photos to drop box as a storage device. idk honestly.
Thanks for any information you can provide.

Hey randomthoughts, thanks for posting on our forum.
When was the last time you accessed that second Dropbox account in the past? Was it more than a year ago? If yes, then there’s a chance the account, along with its files, was automatically deleted due to inactivity.
Other than that, if the Dropbox account in question is a Basic one and you were over-quota, it may have been subject to data deletion at some point. In any of these cases though, you’d have been notified in advance.
Have you checked your Deleted files, Events page and Shared tab and there’s no sign of your photos there? Do you remember for sure having any pictures saved on that Dropbox account in the past?
Let me know.

I dont think its been more than a year, but I still have the account, just not the files/photos.
Ive never been over the 2gb quota on this account (the other account I have is close to it I think).
Yes, its basic. Never been notified. Nothing in deleted files, no shared files/folders or links. Nothing in events. No, I dont remember for sure if I had photos there. I just would not have created it and done nothing with it. When I was discussing with my son about it today, I remembered specific photos that I cant find on my PC or FB or disc's that I have. I recall that if I checked one dropbox account, I checked the other each time.

Would getting an email that says "We noticed your Dropbox setup isn't complete yet" be an indicator that I had no photos there? I found I have 3 total accounts both the 2nd and 3rd one has an email that states the above, but the 3rd one Im also getting emails about upgrading the account, organizing the files, syncing files, etc.
I guess Im going to chalk it up as no photos were there. Seems strange. I remember if I checked one account for the files, I also checked the others as well. So why ck an account with no photos. hum.
Well, thanks for the help and listing ways I can ck my account for photos. Its apprecaited!

Have you checked www.dropbox.com/events ?
If your data has been removed for inactivity then when you log in again it would show as an empty account.
Have you searched emails for messages from no-reply@dropbox.com ?

Yes, I checked events. I checked a few other places as well.
I did ck emails as well. Nothing there, but a messages about not having a set up dropbox account. Just seems odd I would ck an account w/photos, then log into the other to ck it as well. Im going to chalk it up as no photos were even here. Thank you!

Hi randomthoughts, the email about not finishing setting up your account only advises you of other things to finish completing the full setup, and doesn't affect the ability to upload files to the account.
If you're not seeing the missing files on the deleted files page, then there's a few possibilities as to why this might be the case:
- The files are on another Dropbox account
- They were on a shared folder you don't have access to any more
- The files were deleted outside of the 30 day period
- The files were permanently deleted
Let me know what you find out.
