Dropbox stuck on syncing 'download complete'

Whenever I edit documents on my work computer (Macbook Pro M1 max) and sync them to Dropbox, I return home to work on the same files to find that my personal PC (Windows 11, AMD Ryzen 5900x, Samsung M.2 NVMe SSD) is stuck on "download complete" for all the files. It seems Dropbox is consuming 15% of my 12 core CPU at all times, perpetually stuck on the same files for weeks with no end in sight. Conversely, I can edit any file and those are synced immediately. My work laptop receives those files with no problem at all. To solve this, I have tried:

  • Restarting my computer.
  • Turning off my VPN/double checking all firewall and security permissions are correct
  • Restarting Dropbox.
  • Deleting all Dropbox cache.
  • Unsyncing my PC to my Dropbox account then resyncing.
  • Deleting my PC as a registered computer from my Dropbox account then reactivating.

I have reduced the burden of my file load by using selective sync and keeping all unused files in "online-only." Despite all this, I can't figure out how to get Dropbox to sync my files at all to my home computer. I see similar issues online from other people, and they don't have solutions either. This is a last desperate call for help. Has anyone found a solution?

Hi characodon, thanks for bringing this to our attention.

It does sounds like there's a connection issue to Dropbox servers which could be preventing the correct usage of the app.

Could you clarify if you uninstalled and reinstalled the Dropbox desktop application?

This will help me to assist further!
