How can I downgrade from a Dropbox Advanced Team to a Plus plan?
Hi everyone,
I was the sole member and admin of a Dropbox Advanced Team plan and recently canceled the subscription. The system said my account would automatically become a Dropbox Basic account at the end of the billing cycle, which is July 24, 2025.
I currently have around 520GB of data stored in my Dropbox, so the 2GB Basic plan isn’t viable for me. My plan is:
Let the account downgrade to Basic on July 24
Immediately upgrade to an individual Dropbox Plus (2TB) plan from there
Here are my questions:
Is this the correct and supported path for a single-user team account moving to an individual plan?
Once the downgrade happens, will I still have access to my data even though I’ll be over quota?
Will I be able to upgrade immediately to Dropbox Plus on July 24 even while over the 2GB limit?
Is there anything else I should prepare in advance to avoid issues?
Thanks in advance for any clarity or tips you can provide!

Hey Greg111, welcome to our Community!
If you've cancelled your Advanced Team account, your plan should get downgraded to the Basic version at the end of your current billing cycle.
At that point, your team should be placed in what we call a locked state, which allows you to continue accessing the team files, but removes most team syncing and sharing features.
If you want to continue with an individual subscription, you'll need to disband the team, following the steps in the article I hyperlinked above.
From there, you'll be able to re-upgrade your account as normal.
Let me know if you have any questions!

Thanks for the reply, Hannah — I appreciate the clarification and the links.
That said, I do want to point out that this process really isn’t clearly explained in Dropbox’s UI or help docs. It feels like the system is intentionally designed to make it difficult/scary for customers to downgrade from a team plan to an individual one.
I’ll follow the steps you outlined: wait for the downgrade to Basic on July 24, disband the team in the locked state, and then re-upgrade to a Plus plan.
I’ll come back here to share how it goes or if I run into any issues.
Thanks again for the help.
